REGIONAL DRIVING TRAINING CENTRE (RDTC)

On 26th of July 2023 NESMS had signed a Tripartite M.O.U with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways MoRTH (Road Safety), Government of India, Department of Transport Government of Nagaland and Nagaland Ecological Sanitation Management Society, for formation of society for “Establishment of Regional Driver Training Centre” (RDTC), at Kohima.
Needs of the Project
The increase in vehicular traffic on the roads and lack of integrated training to the drivers, a large number of road accidents taking place in the State of Nagaland. These accidents have very serious impacts on the social lives of the affected families. The studies of various road accident carried out in the past concluded that these accidents are avoidable, had the driver's under gone proper training. It is a long need for the Nagaland State capital Kohima for Setting up of Regional Driver Training Centre (RDTC) which shall ensure comprehensive skill development through imparting good training, both theoretical as well as practical.
Therefore, considering the above factors the proposal for Setting up of Regional Driver Training Centre(RDTC) at Tsübazou, Kohima has been prioritized. The state Government through Department of Transport, Nagaland and Nagaland Ecological and Sanitation Management Society intends to set up a driving Training Institute at Kohima to impart safer driving skill to drivers to reduce accidents on roads.
Aims and Objectives of the Project
The basic objective of the scheme is to set up a full-fledged Regional Driver training Centre with driving test track to provide quality training to commercial vehicle drivers, improve road and environment safety and strengthen over all mobility on roads. The following are the main objective of the center:-

To conduct induction training course in driving of Light Motor Vehicles.

To conduct induction and refresher training course in driving of Heavy Motor vehicles.

To conduct induction training course in driving of motorized 2-wheelers.& To conduct Refresher and Orientation Training Courses for the drivers who are in service.

To conduct Refresher and Orientation Training module for the drivers who violate traffic regulations.

To conduct training course for the drivers who carry dangerous/hazardous goods including random periodic evaluation.

To organize road safety awareness campaigns for school children and other vulnerable groups.

Testing of aspiring drivers for issue of driving license.

To carry our periodic accreditation of driving schools in the allocated region.

Progress Activities
On 1" of November 2023. Shri. Lepzungchiba Jamir, Managing Director of 'Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society' dedicated site for construction of "Regional Driver Training Centre' (RDTC) at Tsübazou, Kohima Nagaland in presence of its Advisors and Technical team of NESMS, The RDTC, Kohima is a joint collaboration Institute under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) Road Safety Cell, Government of India. Department of Transport Government of Nagaland and NESMS.

Progress Activities
The CIRT (Central Institute of Road Transport), Pune official reviewed the work progress of RDTC (Regional Driving Training Centre) at Kohima on 18th April. Officer from CIRT, Managing Director RDTC, Advisor of RDTC and Engineers of NESMS have reviewed of the work Progress and focused on assessing training quality, infrastructure, instructor performance and curriculum of the implementation. Key areas of improvement and successful practices were identified, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of driver training programs.

Progress Activities
On 27th March 2025, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) conducted a review of the Rural Development Training Centre (RDTC) at Tsüübazou, Kohima. The review focused on evaluating the progress of ongoing training programs, infrastructure development, and overall implementation of rural development initiatives. The CAG team assessed the effectiveness of capacity-building efforts, rural youth, and departmental staff. Recommendations were provided to enhance training quality, improve monitoring mechanisms, and ensure optimal utilization of resources for sustainable rural development.
