NESMS 

ACTIVITIES 2023-2024

1. Cultural exchange program:

On 22nd of April 2023, Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society (NESMS) organized a Cultural exchange program at IRC Hall, Kohima. The Managing Director of NESMS share ideas, values and be more accepting of diversity by promoting Naga Culture to the younger generation.

The program was attended by around 265 participants from different tribes of Nagaland where Cultural Fashion show was also part of the program.

2. Seminar on "Promotion of Agar Wood Plantation in North-Eastern Region of India":

On 11th of May 2023 Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society' organised one day seminar on "Promotion of Agar Wood Plantation in North-Eastern Region of India" at Aitlenden ward. Tuli Town Mokokchung District Nagaland sponsored by North Eastern Resources Community Management Project under NEC Shillong, Ministry of DONER Govt. of India. 

The short introductory about the NERCORM and NESMS was delivered by Mr. Temjen Jamir Co-ordinator of NESMS. The resources person was invited from the Forest Department, Tuli Range Office Government of Nagaland Mr. P. Samalemzung (Forest 2). The resources person said that Agar wood is a high valued/expensive natural raw material in the world for its distinctive fragrances. Its scientific name Aquilaria Malaccensis and there are 21 species found in India. He also explained about the 3 different species commonly found in India and out of 3 species Aquilaria Crassna is the best species in Nagaland. Agar wood plantation is best in dry land; Agar wood is light in weight and not good for firewood, dig free space for growing healthy, Nursery plant in polybag, cut the bottom roots during plantation, it is the best for growing fast. He also encourages the participants.

The program was attended by 3 officials From Forest Department 21 participants, Miss Arenbenla Associate Youth Pastor of ABA volunteers and the staffs of NESMS.

3. Social Awareness Program:

On 20th of May 2023, Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society (NESMS) conducted social awareness program at Tuli Town, Mokokchung district Nagaland to fight against illiteracy with objective like poverty eradication, fight against drug/aits, eradication of disease like malaria, jaundice etc. Many people of the area who are concerned for the welfare of the people attended this awareness program.

4. World Environment Day :

On 5th of June 2023, in commemoration of World Environment Day' the Nagaland Ecological and Sanitation Management Society in collaboration with Tuli Area Ongpangkong Students' Union organized a Tree plantation Drive on the Theme "Mission Life.

Tuli Area Ongpangkong Students Union President Mr. Moa Jamir welcomes all the members, volunteers and we'll wishers for their support and cooperation. In the near future the twin partnership will work hand and hand for the betterment of our community he exhorted.

The 'Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society (NESMS) Co-ordinator Mr. Temjen Jamir expresses firm cooperation with the Tuli Area Ongpangkong Students Union in the coming days and appreciates their willingness for the plantation program as proposed by the society. The names of the Trees planted are Paulownia Tree, Pine Tree, Hybrid Coconut, Silver Oak etc. The Places covered in the plantation program are Tuli Police Station, Additional Deputy Commission Office, Dobashi Court, Tuli Town Baptist Church, Tuli Lenden Baptist Church pastor residence and Associate pastor women, NPCC ground (Patizung ward), Longli Lenden Fellowship premises and some public places.

5. Women Leadership and Empowerment:

The Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society conducted two days seminar based on "Women Leadership and Empowerment" from 14th and 15th of July 2023 at IRC hall, Kohima. Besides hundreds of women's attended the programme.

The Program was basing on the following aims:-

  • To examine and respond to environmental health disparities utilizing a racial and gender equity lens.

  • Executives of all genders who are seeking to learn more about the importance of women in leadership.

  • Entrepreneurs or business owners looking to increase the influence of women in their company.

  • Executives aspiring to positions of greater authority and influence within their company or network.

  • A group of colleagues or teammates who would like to advance their skills together and build a more cohesive culture.

6. Co-ordination meeting and site visits with the NERCORMS, NEC, Shillong Ministry of DONER, Government of India and Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society:

From 29th to 30th of August 2023, the Co-ordination meeting and site visits with the NERCORMS, NEC, Shillong Ministry of DONER, Government of India and "Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society' was held at Hotel Pine Conference Hall at Tuli Town, Mokokchung Nagaland. The meeting was regarding the implementation of project 'Promotion of Agarwood plantation in the North Eastern Region of India' funded by NEC, Shillong. Mr. Raj Khungur Basumatary Sr. Manager (TKM & PM) was the main key person from NERCORMS, NEC, Shillong Ministry of DONER, Government of India.

The team also visited Asetti village, Molungyimsen 'B' and Merangkong village forest area and Aitlenden ward, Tuli Town

7. Handicraft program:

One day Handicraft program was conducted by "Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society on 7th of September 2023 at Lerie colony, in its branch office Hall Kohima Nagaland. During the program, free Tool Kits for the Artisan were distributed. The Tool Kits was sponsored by the "Northeast infrastructure And Agro Development Pvt. Ltd". All together 30 Artisans benefited from the program. Master Artisan and Handicraft Designer was the resources person during the program. All together 250 Artisan card was also distributed to Artisan of Longkhim Block, Tuensang District Nagaland.

8. Site dedication program of 'Regional Driver Training Centre' (RDTC) at Tsüübazou, Kohima Nagaland:

On 1 of November 2023, Mr. Lepzungchiba Jamir, Managing Director of "Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society' dedicated site for construction of 'Regional Driver Training Centre (RDTC) at Tsüübazou, Kohima Nagaland in presence of its Advisors and Technical team of NESMS.

The RDTC, Kohima is a joint collaboration Institute under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) Road Safety Cell, Government of India, Department of Transport Government of Nagaland and NESMS. Distribution of financial assistance to Agar wood farmers under Mokokchung District of Nagaland:

All together 75 beneficiaries were benefited for plantation of Agar wood for 1 acres of land from the following villages viz. Moalenden village, Kangtsungyimsen village, Mangmetong village, Ungma village, Moayimti village, Longjang. Khanimu village and Asetti village were cover in the 1 Phase under the scheme "Promotion of Agar wood plantation in the North Eastern State of India" under NERCORMS, NEC Shillong Government of India.

9. Establishment of Medicinal Plant Nursery at Asetti village:

​​​Establishment of Medicinal Plant Nursery at Asetti village is under progress under the National Medicinal Plant Board, Ministry of Ayush Government of India for 1 hectare of land implemented by Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society (NESMS)

 

10. Inspection of Regional Driver Training Centre' (RDTC) at Tsüübazou, Kohima Nagaland by Deputy Transport Commissioner:

On 30th of January 2024, Mr. Yaongsanglee Chang Deputy Transport Commissioner, Department of Transport, Government of Nagaland visited the construction site of "Regional Driving Training Centre" (RDTC) at Tsüübazou, Kohima Nagaland.

11.Construction of District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC):

Construction of District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) at Asetti village under Tuli Sub-Division is under progress which is under the supervision of Ministry of Social Justice Government of India to be run by Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society (NESMS).

12. Rehabilitation & Treatment of Alcohol and drugs users:

On 27th of January 2024, "Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society" conducted program on 'Rehabilitation & Treatment of Alcohol and drugs users' for the rural people with the help of Doctors, Nurse and other resource person at Tuli. During the program they were provided free medical check-up. They were also made aware about the importance of environment on the health and were encouraged to keep their surrounding clean and hygienic. The total of 32 participants benefitted through the program.

13. Road Safety program:

The "Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society" (NESMS) organised a Road Safety program at Kohima Town. Nagaland on 10th of January 2024 basing on the theme "Be a road safety hero, The Program was successfully participated by public and Local taxis from different parts of Kohima and pamphlets and stickers were distributed to be paste in the local taxi's around Kohima town.

14. Training & Orientation program at NERCORM, NEC, Shillong Ministry of DONER Government of India:

Two (2) days Training & Orientation program at NERCORM, NEC, Shillong Ministry of DONER Government of India was conducted where 2 of the staffs of "Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society" (NESMS) was also invited for participation. potentially for business both for individuals and groups. The only thing that village communities require is the need for change of mind-set from traditional way of farming to scientific methods. This was followed by group discussion and group activity among the participants, focusing on how Fisheries, Poultry. The program also distributed tools kits to the farmers.
