NESMS Activities 2024-2025

The Capacity Building Programme was held on 13th and 14th March 2024 at the Forest Complex in Dimapur, Nagaland. The event was a collaborative effort by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Boeing, and the Learning Links Foundation, with support from the Government of Nagaland and the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN). Two staff members from NESMS also participated in the programme. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the development of India, partnering industry, Government, and civil society, through advisory and consultative processes.

2. Cultural Exchange Program

A Cultural Exchange Program was held on 6th April 2024 at Kohima, bringing together 200 enthusiastic participants. The event celebrated unity in diversity through performances and interactions. A keynote speech was delivered by the Assistant Managing Director on the theme “Importance of Diverse Culture,” highlighting how cultural diversity fosters mutual understanding, innovation, and community strength. The program successfully promoted harmony and intercultural appreciation among attendees.

3. Inspection & Review of RDTC Work Progress by CIRT.

The CIRT (Central Institute of Road Transport), Pune official reviewed the work progress of RDTC (Regional Driving Training Centre) at Kohima on 18th April. Officer from CIRT, Managing Director RDTC, Advisor of RDTC and Engineers of NESMS have reviewed of the work Progress and focused on assessing training quality, infrastructure, instructor performance and curriculum of the implementation. Key areas of improvement and successful practices were identified, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of driver training programs.

4. Exposure Program on promotion of Agarwood Plantation.

An Exposure Program on the promotion of Agarwood Plantation in the North-Eastern Region of India was conducted in collaboration with the North Eastern Council (NEC) on 25th of April 2024 at Hojai, Assam. The initiative aimed to raise awareness and build capacity among stakeholders regarding the economic and ecological benefits of Agarwood cultivation. Twenty Three participants gained insights into sustainable plantation techniques, value addition and market opportunities, fostering regional cooperation and encouraging livelihood development through eco-friendly agroforestry practices.

5. Road Safety Program.

A Road Safety Awareness Program was held on 11th May 2024 at Kohima, specifically for taxi drivers. The event saw the participation of 100 drivers and focused on promoting safe driving practices, traffic regulations, and passenger safety. Experts from Department of Transport provided practical tips and highlighted the importance of responsible driving in reducing accidents. The program aimed to enhance road safety awareness among public transport operators and ensure safer travel for all commuters.

6. Swachhta Pakhwada Cleanliness Drive.

NESMS observed Swachhta Pakhwada with a cleanliness drive on 21st May 2024, reinforcing its commitment to hygiene and environmental responsibility. Staff and community members actively participated in cleaning public spaces, spreading awareness on waste management, and promoting the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The initiative aimed to instil a sense of civic duty and support the national vision of a cleaner India.

7. Induction Program of Managing Director NESMS as Corporate Member NBB.

Shri Lepzungchiba Jamir, Managing Director of the Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society (NESMS), has become the first Naga to be inducted as a Life Member, Category (A) Corporate Member of the National Bee Board. To acknowledge and celebrate this significant achievement, a thanksgiving programme was held on 3rd June 2024 at Hotel Japfü, Kohima. The event marked a proud moment for NESMS and the state, recognizing Shri Jamir's dedication to ecological sustainability and his contribution to the beekeeping and environmental sector.

8. Capacity Building program on Agri & Allied.

A Capacity Building Program on Agriculture and Allied sectors was conducted on 27th May 2024 with a focus on livestock training in Animal Husbandry. All together 45 participants attended the program and visited a Piggery Farm at Dimapur. The initiative aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of farmers and SHG members in scientific livestock management practices. Topics included animal nutrition, disease management, breeding, and housing. The program empowered participants to improve livestock productivity and sustainability, thereby contributing to enhanced rural incomes and food security.

9. Field survey on organic maize cultivation.

The ‘Nagaland Ecological and Sanitation Management Society’ organised Field Survey on 22nd of August 2024. It was organised at Shamator District of Nagaland to Survey the land preparation for organic maize cultivation and also methods of cultivation practice by the local farmers of Shamator District, Nagaland. The Research Assistant & Resource person also interact with the local farmers about the problems face by the farmers in the whole process of cultivation.

10. Construction of Fisheries Pond for NESMS at Tuli.

In the month August, a fisheries pond was constructed for NESMS at Tuli with the primary aim of producing fish fry for distribution among local farmers. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable fish farming and enhance local livelihoods. By providing access to quality fish fry, the project supports increased fish production, food security, and income generation for farmers in the Tuli area and build capacity in aquaculture practices among beneficiaries associated with NESMS.

11. Construction of District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) Counselling & Treatment Block and                        renovation of DDAC main Building at Tuli, Mokokchung District, Nagaland.

Substance abuse and addiction have emerged as serious public health concerns in many districts of Nagaland including Mokokchung District. In response to the growing need for rehabilitation services and mental health support, the NESMS aims to provide structured, accessible, and professional care to individuals battling of addiction.

The primary objective of the DDAC is: -

Provide comprehensive de-addiction and rehabilitation services.

  • Offer counselling, detoxification, therapy, and post-recovery support.

  • Create awareness and reduce the stigma associated with substance abuse.

  • Rehabilitate individuals into mainstream society through vocational training and psychological support.

12. Financial Assistance & Distribution of Agarwood Sapling and Manure.

The Financial Assistance and Distribution of Agar Wood saplings Program was conducted for beneficiaries from 13 villages for 156 beneficiaries under Mokokchung District Nagaland on June 29th 2024, sponsored by NERCOM, NEC, Shillong Ministry of DONER, Government of India which focused on promoting sustainable agarwood. As part of the initiative, 1 lakh Agarwood saplings along with organic manure were distributed to support long-term livelihood generation and environmental conservation. The program aims to encourage farmers to cultivate high-value trees, increase green cover, and improve soil fertility.

Financial support was also extended to help beneficiaries manage initial planting and maintenance costs. This initiative reflects a holistic approach to economic empowerment and ecological sustainability for rural communities in the region.

13. Aerial Survey of location for various CSR projects.

From 28th to 29th of November 2024, officials of NESMS & Consultant of N2V Inc jointly surveyed 6 districts through Aerial view from Chopper for various CSR projects. The survey focused on assessing terrain, accessibility, infrastructure, and community needs to support initiatives in agriculture, education, healthcare, and livelihood enhancement. High-resolution imagery and geospatial mapping were used to guide effective planning and resource allocation. This strategic overview aims to ensure impactful, need-based interventions that align with regional development goals and benefit marginalized communities across these remote districts.

14. Consultative Meeting with Member of Parliament Lok Sabha.

A consultative meeting was held on 16th February 2025 at NESMS Office between Shri. Supongmeren Jamir, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Nagaland and the staffs of Nagaland Ecological & Sanitation Management Society (NESMS) to discuss various ongoing and proposed projects across Nagaland. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration for sustainable development initiatives, including ecological conservation, sanitation, vocational training, and rural livelihood programs. Shri. Jamir emphasized the importance of community participation and assured his support for impactful, grassroots-level interventions aimed at improving the quality of life across the state.

15. Review of RDTC by CAG.

On 27th March 2025, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) conducted a review of the Rural Development Training Centre (RDTC) at Tsüübazou, Kohima. The review focused on evaluating the progress of ongoing training programs, infrastructure development, and overall implementation of rural development initiatives. The CAG team assessed the effectiveness of capacity-building efforts, rural youth, and departmental staff. Recommendations were provided to enhance training quality, improve monitoring mechanisms, and ensure optimal utilization of resources for sustainable rural development.
